Flooring Calculator
Estimate square footage, boxes, and waste for flooring projects.
How this tool works
Estimate flooring materials before buying planks, boards, tile, or sheets. CasaLabs calculators keep assumptions visible, use source-backed formulas, and avoid storing personal information.
How to use it
- Measure room length and width in feet.
- Enter a waste allowance for cuts, layout, and mistakes.
- Enter the square feet covered by one flooring box.
Formula
Boxes = ceiling((room length × room width × (1 + waste percent)) ÷ box coverage).
Example
A 12 ft by 10 ft room with 10% waste is 132 sq ft. If each box covers 20 sq ft, buy 7 boxes.
Common mistakes
- Skipping waste allowance for rooms with closets or angles.
- Using box count before checking the product’s actual coverage.
- Mixing square yards and square feet.
Assumptions
- Room area is measured in square feet.
- Waste allowance accounts for cuts, layout, and mistakes.
- Box coverage varies by product and should be checked before buying.
